Death Race (Paul W.S. Anderson, 2008)

Death Race (Paul W.S. Anderson, 2008)Neither better nor worse than I expected, it’s pretty much exactly what you should get from a movie called Death Race from the hyperkinetic schlock auetur behind Resident Evil and AVP: lots of extremely loud and violent action sequences piled on top of each other like a high-speed pileup with only the bare minimum of exposition to give the movie some semblance of coherence. Jason Statham gives his best 1,000-yard stare, but he’s no David Carradine. For that matter, Anderson is no Roger Corman. (Hollywood Jewel 16, Waco, TX)
