Diary of the Dead (George A. Romero, 2007)

Diary of the Dead (George A. Romero, 2007)For Exhibit A in the the category of Great Idea, Not-So-Great Execution we have Romero’s fifth zombie film, which takes a self-consciously YouTube approach to the undead pandemic by depicting the spread of horror with videocameras wielded by a group of college film students. The immediate, ground-level approach to the all-too-familiar territory has potential and a few remarkable moments, but Romero compromises the logic far too often and is frequently hobbled by both amateurish acting and unbelievable behavior. It makes you realize just how good Cloverfield really was. (DVD)
