Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (Nathan Frankowski, 2008)

No Intelligence Allowed (Nathan Frankowski, 2008)I am neither a scientist nor a theologian, so I can’t comment with any authority on the validity of the claims made about intelligent design and Darwinism made in this documentary-polemic. I can say that my gut tells me the film isn’t playing entirely fair, which is the filmmakers’ choice. But, as someone who is at least sympathetic with many of the film’s bigger ideas—academic freedom, challenging any form of entrenched power, questioning the nature of science as an explanatory discourse—I would have liked to see them really dig into the issues, rather than play cute to the choir who will go to see the film and lavish it with praise while the supposedly godless scientists rail against it. A real chance for discussion has been thrown to the wolves. (Hollywood Jewel 16, Waco, TX)Â
