The Eye (David Moreau & Xavier Palud, 2008)

The Eye (David Moreau and Xavier Palud, 2008)Thankfully, Hollywood’s obsession with remaking Asian horror films seems to have dried up lately, which makes The Eye, an Americanized rehash of a 2002 Hong Kong chiller, seem all the more outdated. Jessica Alba’s corneal transplant patient is traumatized by inexplicable visions that are less horrifying than they are indicative of the filmmakers’ desire to throw everything but the kitchen sink into this brew: the poor girl sees not only dead people, but death itself, not to mention confusing fragments of someone else’s memory and even the future. No wonder she trembles so much. It’s all neatly explained in the final reel, but that doesn’t mean it really works. (Hollywood Jewel 16, Waco, TX)
