The Young Racers (Roger Corman, 1963)

The Young Racers (Roger Corman, 1963)Two-thirds talky, love-triangle melodrama and one-third repetitive Grand Prix racing footage, The Young Racers is redeemed only by excellent location photography in the wealthiest parts of Europe, including Monte Carlo, France, and Belgium. Whenever Corman’s films rely too heavily of drama, they tend to drag, and that is certainly the case here, plus he managed to completely miscast both of his leads, who should be playing each other’s roles. And, to add insult to injury, poor Mark Damon had all his lines dubbed by William Shatner, although that certainly adds a camp-enjoyment factor that would otherwise be sorely missing. (DVD)
