Into the Wild (Sean Penn, 2007)

I just caught up with Sean Penn’s deeply personal portrait of wanderlusting leather-tramp Chris McCandless on a DVD screener, and even on a smaller screen I felt completely immersed in the majesty and grandeur of the images. Even more so than Jon Krakauer’s source book, Penn errs on the side of turning his Truth-seeking young hero into an unproblematic saint—a  literal Christ figure—but I was nevertheless moved by the profundity of his tragic journey.
