Juno (Jason Reitman, 2007)

JunoGranted, it probably has a few too many indie-artie quirks, but I still came close to falling completely in love with this movie. With her sarcastic and poignant turn as a pregnant teen, Ellen Page proves that Hard Candy was no fluke; she’s the real deal. What surprised me, however, was how seamlessly Jason Reitman was able to integrate the humor and the humanity of Diablo Cody’s script, which he hadn’t quite been able to pull off in Thank You for Smoking. Juno manages to be simultaneously hilarious and deeply humane. (Awards Screener DVD)
