Leonard Bernstein was born August 25, 1918 in Lawrence, Massachusetts and became one of the most celebrated and visible American musicians of the 20th Century.

Here he is hosting one of his Young People’s Concerts, this one from 1966 in which he explains musical modes.  He was as effective as an educator and “popularizer” as he was a composer and conductor.
