BAYLOR BANDS

BAYLOR WIND ENSEMBLE
Dr. Eric Wilson, conductor

The Baylor University Wind Ensemble is the premier wind band of the Baylor School of Music. The Baylor Wind Ensemble is guided by a philosophy that seeks to expose its students and audiences to the highest quality music written or transcribed for wind instruments representing all periods of music history. The repertoire of the ensemble represents selections ranging from music of the Renaissance to world premieres for wind band. In almost four decades of existence, the Baylor Wind Ensemble has appeared numerous times at regional and national conventions of the College Band Directors National Association, American Bandmasters Association, and Texas Music Educators Association.

Baylor Symphonic Band
Dr. Isaiah Odajima, conductor

The Baylor University Symphonic Band is comprised of primarily music majors, and performs a wide array of virtuosic repertoire including chamber works, masterworks for band, and contemporary wind literature.

Baylor Concert Band
Dr. Stuart Ivey, conductor

The Baylor Concert Band is composed primarily of non-majors. Meeting only in the Spring semester, this group performs 2 – 3 concerts on campus.

Golden Wave Marching Band
Dr. Isaiah Odajima, director

Comprised of over 300 members, The Golden Wave is the largest student musical organization at Baylor University and stands as an icon of campus tradition. Our membership includes students from across the nation and represent all academic disciplines of Baylor, including Music, Science, Business, Pre-Med, and Engineering. The Golden Wave performs both on and off the Baylor campus and travels to other university campuses during the football season, as well as bowl games when the football team travels. Known to students as ‘BUGWB’, the Golden Wave Band allows students to become an integral part of the university’s spirit, perform for thousands of Baylor fans, and to form close friendships with students from all over campus.

BAYLOR SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Stephen Heyde, Conductor

Three-time winner of the American Prize for Outstanding Collegiate Orchestra, the Baylor Symphony has an extensive performance schedule on and off campus, annually presenting four to six concerts of standard orchestral repertoire, a full opera production, and other events such as concerto accompaniments, new music readings and choral/orchestral collaborations. The orchestra also presents a series of children’s concerts each year to an audience of over 6000 Waco area schoolchildren. Repertoire of recent years has included Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, Brahms’ 4th Symphony, Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4, Dvorak Symphony No. 8, and Mahler Symphony 5.

 Chamber Music
All undergraduate and graduate students coach with wind faculty in woodwind chamber music for a minimum of four semesters. The class meets twice a week, and flute majors participate in both mixed wind groups and small flute ensembles. Through coached and learned repertoire and exposure to performances of other student groups, the chamber music structure offers substantial exposure to the standard woodwind repertoire within the context of every degree plan.

Semper Pro Musica Competition
Open only to Baylor music students, this bi-annual competition allows students to participate in a two-round process in the arenas of both solo performance and chamber music. Winning groups and soloists perform a Winners’ Recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York City.

Concerto Competition
Held annually, one winner of our school-wide concerto competition is awarded a full concerto performance with one of the large ensembles within our School of Music.
