Letterwinner Shoutouts

We welcome the opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of our letterwinners and happily celebrate in their (your!) successes.  If you have a personal recognition you would like to share with us, please send us an email and tell us about it.  Join us as we congratulate these letterwinners on their noteworthy accomplishments.

 

Vinny Rhodes- Football (2005-08)

Defensive tackle for the Bears from 2004-2007, Vincent “Vinny” Rhodes was inducted into the Denison Alumni Association Sports Hall of Fame in the 2021 class on September 23rd. Rhodes was born and raised in Denison, Texas, where he grew up to be a football star in highschool. As both an offensive and defensive lineman, Rhodes was a 2003 all-state honoree, the 2003 District 11-4A MVP, 4A first-team all-state, and was second-team all-state pick at defensive end. Rhodes and was a 4-time letterwinner (05-08) and started in over 22 career games at Baylor, making him one of the top defensive starters for the university. Congratulations Vinny!

 

Dan Brook- Football 1981

Baylor football letterwinner, Dan Brook (’81), was recently recognized in the fall 2021 edition of Baylor Magazine for his incredible artistry in sculpting.  Brook created the beautiful statues of Baylor’s two Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, John Kane and Jack Lummus, that now prominently stand near McLane Stadium. One of only a few sculptors who create in both figurative and contemporary styles, Brook is a master in bronze, terracotta, and lucite, and his work has been commissioned and collected across the United States, as well as in the Middle East and Europe.

Dan was a member of the 1980 team that won the Southwest Conference championship and played in the ’81 Cotton Bowl.

  1. It’s amazing to see how letterwinners like Vinny Rhodes and Dan Brook are celebrated for their achievements! Vinny’s recognition for his football career at Baylor and Dan’s artistry in sculpting statues of Medal of Honor recipients are truly inspiring. It reminds me of the dedication and teamwork in games like Retro bowl , where strategy and effort come together for success!
