You may remember Danny Andino (Football 2000-02) as the kicker who nailed the winning 33-yard field goal that led the Bears to a 35-32 victory over Kansas in 2002, ending a 29-game conference losing streak. Andino went on to graduate from Baylor with a degree in Entrepreneurship and began a career in medical sales.
Some personal struggles and challenges would eventually lead Andino to his life’s purpose. After graduation, he was at the peak of his career when partying and addiction to drugs and alcohol began to consume his life. After seeking guidance from friends and family, Andino entered rehab on November 17, 2011, and has been sober ever since. Through his recovery, Andino began to consider the possibility of opening a treatment facility where he could help others reclaim their lives from addiction as he had done.
According to Andino, his life’s purpose is to help others become free from the bondage of addiction. In 2017, he co-founded Arise Recovery Centers, outpatient treatment facilities for adults struggling with drug and alcohol abuse. The centers provide treatment to individuals at three locations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in a comfortable, inviting, high-end environment with plans to expand to other cities in the near future. The staff provides personalized services to fit within their clients’ lifestyles that allow individuals to maintain their jobs and remain with their families while receiving treatment.
Danny Amendola, two-time Super Bowl Champion and brother of Baylor letterwinner, Matt Amendola, has the highest praise for Andino. “In my eyes Danny was chosen to inspire. His love, sincerity, and energy engraves a mark on everyone he touches, and an even deeper one on his closest friends. He pours thought, insight, and faith into Arise Recovery Centers and provides a light to those struggling with addiction.”
Andino’s journey through addiction, coupled with his business education from Baylor, provided him with a unique perspective that was essential to his success. “It’s a huge gift to be able to use my story of recovery and redemption, combined with my gifts and talents for entrepreneurship to bring much needed help to the community.”
Andino currently lives in Prosper, Texas, with his wife Liz, 8-year-old daughter Olive, and 1-year-old son Kruz. Liz is a DFW-based real estate agent and she is the owner of Accessory Jane, her own customized jewelry line.
