Family, faith, commitment to excellence, servant leaders, community, relationships… these are some words that describe the Baylor “B” Association. When we are together, as former letterwinners, there is a sense of joy and excitement in staying connected to our great University and with each other. That is why I am a part of the “B” Association and why I will forever stay involved.
Dutch Schroeder, Walter Abercrombie, my former baseball coach, Mickey Sullivan, and many others taught me what it means to be a Baylor Bear! I am indebted and proud to stand on the shoulders of these leaders, who taught us the power of connectedness beyond performance. I know many of you feel the same way, regardless of the win-loss records. We are Baylor family!
We are so proud of the important work that has been done in the past few years in the “B” Association. The Dutch Schroeder Letterwinners Legacy Endowment was established last year with a goal to create a financially self-sustaining organization within the next five years. Our association hosted the National Letterwinners Conference last year with tremendous success, as more than fifty universities across the nation attended – and our lounge facility at McLane Stadium is the envy of every university. These efforts, along with the outstanding member-oriented programs and events hosted throughout the year, have elevated the “B” Association to an elite status among the nation’s other letterwinners associations.
My goal, as the President of the “B” Association, is to reach more former players and engage them about the benefits of our organization. I have been able to forge lifetime relationships with other members, and I have received way more from the association than I could ever give. Another goal is for our association to continue to develop ways to reach the younger letterwinners and support them, as they prepare to leave school. Ken Buckley, our President-Elect, is developing more social media presence and ways for letterwinners to digitally connect through LinkedIn, Facebook, and other media channels.
There is so much excitement on campus! Multiple teams have won championships or are currently at the top of the Big 12. Football is coming off an ESPN Top 25-ranked recruiting year. Baylor leadership is more committed than ever to winning with excellence and accountability. There is much to be proud of and greater days ahead for our University and the “B” Association. For current “B” Association members, your membership and involvement continue to be vital to our beloved organization. Thank you for helping us remain strong. If you are not an active member, I encourage you to consider joining today. I am confident that, like me, you will receive much more for your membership than you will ever give.
Sic ’em!
