New LinkedIn Page for Baylor Letterwinners

The “B” Association is launching a new tool for staying connected with other Baylor letterwinners. The new tool is a “closed”, or invitation only, LinkedIn page that will be a private career communication resource and accessible only to Baylor letterwinners.

This LinkedIn page was created to serve three purposes:

  1. It will be a vehicle for all the interested letterwinners to post jobs and opportunities that arise within the group.
  2. It will provide a communication link to letterwinners who are in career transition and will be a resource for them as they search for opportunities or seek career support.
  3. It will provide a networking link for Baylor student-athletes to reach out to veteran letterwinners for career insight, career connections, and location recommendations.

Student-athletes at some point in their college career will be looking for summer work experiences, internships or even full-time jobs. There is a high likelihood because of the time they spend with their athletic career that these student-athletes will miss out on traditional networking opportunities. We have an amazing army of letterwinners who are spread all over this country with an almost endless diversity of work experience as well as a willingness to answer career questions from student-athletes. Wouldn’t it have been great to have had something like this when we were trying to decide what we were going to do after college?

How to join:

  1. Simply request to join the group on LinkedIn called “Baylor ‘B’ Association.” You can access it at the following link: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12024100. We will approve you and you can connect with other members of the group. It may take a few weeks to get a reasonable number of letterwinners on board, but you should see increased traffic on the site in the coming weeks. We will also post job opportunities and career updates on a weekly basis as they come through our office.
  2. If you don’t have a LinkedIn page and would like to start one (it is very easy) so you can connect with us, please follow this brief tutorial: https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/linkedin-profile-perfection-cheat-sheet#sm.00000wpf6zqm7ffobqtj1264i6jy4. The following is what the Baylor Business School provides to students to help them create their personal LinkedIn page. This link covers many other features of LinkedIn and is a very good resource: https://university.linkedin.com/linkedin-for-students.

As a side note, the Baylor Business School Career Management department, headed by Ken Buckley, built a similar closed LinkedIn page for Baylor MBAs, and there are nearly 700 members on it. It has been a great way to highlight career opportunities that are active, real, and connected to a friendly Baylor person on the other end of the email. It has also been a great way for our MBA students to network with other MBAs regarding career direction, employer updates, industry news, and relocation questions.
