Acrobatics and Tumbling Student Athlete to Receive “B” Association Endowed Scholarship
The 2017 recipient of the “B” Association’s Endowed Scholarship Fund is Alexa Crumpton, a member of the three-time National Championship Acrobatics and Tumbling team.
Each year, a student athlete is selected to receive the scholarship based on his or her financial need. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a student athlete who has remaining eligibility but does not have the funds to complete his or her degree.
Alexa is a social work major with advanced standing in Baylor’s Master of Social Work program. Her goal is to become a licensed clinical social worker and counsel women suffering with infertility. She says, “I love using the gifts the Lord has given me in both the classroom and in the world of athletics. I am passionately involved with Vertical Ministries and Harris Creek Baptist Church. Baylor has allowed me the opportunity to find a deep, biblical, community that consistently challenges me and points me towards the Lord- for which I am forever grateful.”
Student Athletes Selected as John Westbrook Award Recipients
At the annual Baylor Student Athlete Banquet on May 1, Seth Russell (Football) and Alexis Jones (Women’s Basketball) were selected as the 2017 recipients of the John Westbrook Award for Courage and Perseverance.
John Westbrook made history in 1966 when he broke a 52 year-old color barrier, becoming the first African-American to play in a Southwest Conference football game.
In 2009, the “B” Association established the John Westbrook Award for Courage and Perseverance. The award is presented annually to one male and one female Baylor student-athlete who have overcome great personal, academic and/or emotional challenges to achieve academic success while making positive contributions to their respective teams, families, and communities.
May 31 Deadline to Submit Hall of Fame and Wall of Honor Nominations
We are still accepting nominations for the Baylor Athletic Hall of Fame and the “B” Association’s Wall of Honor. Only dues-paying members of the “B” Association are eligible to nominate former Baylor athletes for consideration.
Please review the criterion listed on the nomination forms below before making your submissions. The person nominated should have met one or more of the achievement standards listed on the nomination form. Since selections to the Hall of Fame are based on the nominee’s athletic accomplishments while at Baylor, we ask that you provide as much information as possible regarding their collegiate athletic career, stats, honors, etc.
The Wall of Honor is the “B” Association’s highest honor, and while nominees must be Baylor letterwinners, the criterion for this award is based on their lifetime achievements after graduating from Baylor.
Nominations may be submitted by email to tammy_hardin@baylor.edu or by mail to Baylor “B” Association, 1500 S. University Parks Drive, Waco, TX 76706. The deadline for submitting nominations is May 31st; nominations received after that time will be placed on next year’s ballot for consideration.
