The “B” Association congratulates football and baseball letterwinner, Jay Jeffrey, who has been named president of Time Manufacturing, headquartered in Waco, Texas. Jeffrey’s new title was part of an agreement with The Sterling Group, a Houston-based private equity firm, which recently purchased Time from the previous owner, O’Flaherty Holdings Limited. The purchase happened during a period of significant growth at the local business which just completed a 50,000-square-foot expansion that included a 28,000-square-foot service facility and a 22,000-square-foot manufacturing expansion. Time employs about 450 people in the Waco area.
Founded in 1965, Time is a global designer, manufacturer, and distributor of vehicle-mounted aerial lifts primarily for the telecom and electric utility end markets. The company pioneered several brands within the aerial lift market, including the industry leading Versalift brand. The business operates in nine companies out of 12 facilities across the United States and Europe, and it supports manufacturing, distribution, and rental operations in more than 50 countries.
Longtime Baylor fans remember Jeffrey as the talented quarterback that led the 1980 football team to the Southwest Conference championship and the 1981 Cotton Bowl. However, Jeffrey did not begin his college football career at Baylor. After playing two seasons at University of Missouri, Jeffrey transferred to Baylor, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Neal, who led the Bears to the Southwest Conference championship in 1974. The younger Jeffrey quarterbacked the ’80 team to a school-record 10 wins, a high ranking of No. 6 in the nation and the second league title in seven years. Jeffrey played his role well, passing for 1,096 yards and eight touchdowns and adding 453 yards and five TDs rushing. He was named first-team All-SWC and the league’s Newcomer of the Year. Adding 1,643 yards passing the next season as a senior, Jeffrey finished with a two-year total of 2,739 yards – a mark that stood at No. 4 when he left and still ranks as the 17th best all-time. Jeffrey also lettered in baseball, playing shortstop as a sophomore and junior and then switching to left field as a senior in ’82. As a junior, he had a team-high .320 batting average with 29 hits for the Bears. Jeffrey was inducted into the Baylor Hall of Fame in 2009, joining his father, James, and older brother, Neal.
Please join us in congratulating Jay Jeffrey, a proud member of the Baylor letterwinner family.
Sic ’em Jay!
