Brittney Griner- Women’s Basketball
The United States dominated on the court in the Women’s Basketball Final of the Olympic tournament, beating Japan, 90-75, to claim the team’s seventh consecutive gold medal. Of the 90 points scored, former Lady Bear Brittney Griner can claim 30 of them. This is Griner’s second gold medal at her second Olympic Games. In addition to her second gold medal, Griner also became just the third player in the WNBA to reach 700 blocks, following Margo Dydek and Lisa Leslie. To read more, click here.
Robert Griffin lll
Robert Griffin III will be moving from the field into the broadcast booth as he has signed a multi-year deal with ESPN to be a college football and NFL analyst. Griffin will be in the booth for college football games on ESPN and ABC and will contribute to ESPN’s studio coverage, including during the College Football Playoff and Super Bowl.
Baylor’s first Heisman Trophy winner and former Pro Bowl quarterback has not totally shut the door on his NFL career, however Griffin will have a clause in his contract that will allow him to renew his NFL career if the opportunity arises. To read more about RG3’s new venture, click here.
Josh Wenke- Football
Dr. Josh Wenke is now a Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation, and the Director of Research for Shriners Children’s Texas. Shriners has an extraordinary system to take care of pediatric patients in 22 hospitals world wide at no cost to the families.
Dr. Wenke’s primary contributions have been defining wound patterns, complications, and outcomes of combat casualties; mobilizing clinical studies to evaluate current standards of care; regenerating of musculoskeletal defects; and preventing and treating infection.
