“B” Association to Honor Former Baylor Bear Phillip Kent, Sr.

The “B” Association and Baylor Athletics will recognize former Baylor Bear, Dr. Phillip Kent, Sr., as a 2021 Baylor Football Legend at the Baylor vs Texas Southern game on September 11th.

Kent earned two varsity letters for the Bears from 1973-74 playing in the slotback and split end positions, as well as on special teams. He was a key member of the 1974 Baylor team that won the Southwest Conference Championship and earned an invitation to the 1975 Cotton Bowl Classic. During that championship season, he led the team in receptions and kickoff returns, garnering consensus All-Southwest Conference honors. In addition, Kent was the Co-MVP of the 1974 Southwest Conference Championship team, was a member of Baylor Football’s All-Decade team of the 1970’s, and was drafted by the Miami

Dolphins in 1974. Inducted into the Baylor Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987, Kent holds the distinction of being the first African-American to receive this honor.

Kent, a former Baylor Regent, now serves as Pastor Emeritus at The Cathedral of Life Church in Houston, Texas where he resides with Jan, his wife of 50 years.

Please join us this Saturday in giving a warm Baylor welcome to 2021 Football Legend, Phillip Kent.

  1. Please send Mr Kent my info. I played with his daughter when we were little. I still remember her.
