Nina Davis- Women’s Basketball (2014-17)
Congratulations go out to former Lady Bear, Nina Davis, who currently serves as an assistant coach at Middle Tennessee State University. The Middle Tennessee Lady Raiders (17-7) captured the Conference USA Championship with a riveting 68-65 win against defending champion Rice at the Ford Center at The Star in March, punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. It marks the Lady Raiders’ third C-USA championship in four title game appearances and their first since 2016.
Davis enjoyed a brilliant career at Baylor, helping lead the Bears to four consecutive NCAA Tournaments. Baylor reached the Elite Eight in each of Davis’ four seasons.
Davis was instrumental in helping lead Baylor to a 134-15 record during her playing career, averaging 16.3 points per game. She is the only player in Big 12 history to be named to the All-Tournament team all four years and was named Big 12 Championship MVP twice. She finished her career with more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, which is fifth all time at Baylor for both categories.
Davis’ was a two-time Associated Press All-American and was also named to All-American teams by USBWA, WBCA and Wooden Award. She was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2014 and the Big 12 Player of the Year in 2015, as well as a three-time All-Big 12 first team honoree.
In 2015, Davis represented her country on the USA Basketball Team which captured the gold medal with a perfect 6-0 record at the World University games in Gwangju, South Korea.
Trey Bryant- Football (2006-09)
Former Baylor Bear, Trey Bryant III, has been named as the head football coach at his high school alma mater, Berkner High School in Richardson ISD.
Bryant previously served as the Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator for football and head coach for powerlifting at McKinney High School.
Jhasmin Player- Women’s Basketball (2006-09)
The SMU Mustangs have added former Baylor Lady Bear Jhasmin Player to their women’s basketball coaching staff. Player will serve as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Player spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Kansas. Prior to her time with the Jayhawks, she helped guide Loyola Marymount to the postseason for the first time since 2001 when the team earned a bid to the 2019 WNIT.
During her two seasons as a guard coach at the University of Maine, the Black Bears played in the conference championship games twice, with a victory in 2018. Player helped guide the squad to a 23-9 record, earning a 15-seed in Maine’s first NCAA Tournament since 2004. Four players earned all-conference accolades under her tutelage.
After her first stint at Maine from 2011-13, Player spent five seasons playing professionally in Europe, with teams in Portugal, Spain and Poland. She also spent one season in the WNBA, playing for the Atlanta Dream.
Player earned her degree in speech communication from Baylor in 2009, where she played four seasons and served as a captain as a junior and senior. Baylor played in four NCAA tournaments during her career and won the Big 12 Tournament in 2009. Player earned all-conference accolades and was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team as a guard for the Lady Bears.
