Men’s Basketball Captures First-Ever Big XII Regular Season Championship

Your Baylor Men’s Basketball Team are Big 12 Champions!!  The Bears pulled out a thrilling 94-89 overtime win last week over the West Virginia Mountaineers to clinch the program’s first Big 12 title in the 25-year history of the league and the first conference championship since winning the old Southwest Conference in 1950.

With their 88-73 win against Texas Tech on Saturday, the Bears wrapped up regular season conference play and recorded an undefeated home record at the Ferrell Center.  The seniors put on a show for Senior Night with Macio Teague setting a new Big 12 record for 3-pointers made in a game with 10. He scored a season high 35 points while making all but 1 of his 11 3-pointers attempted. Fellow senior Mark Vital had his 3rd career double double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.  With confetti raining down, Coach Scott Drew, the coaching staff, players, and Baylor Fans, all finally got to celebrate the conference championship they so richly deserved.

The Bears now move on to the Big 12 Conference Tournament which kicks off this Wednesday (March 10-13) from the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.  As the number-one seed in the tournament, Baylor has a first round bye and is scheduled to play on Thursday, March 11th at 1:30pm, either against TCU or Kansas State.  The game will be broadcast on ESPN platforms.  To stay up-to-date on tournament scheduling and game results, click here.
