Here we are again, game week! This time, it appears all systems are go, so the Bears are set to kickoff the conference season against the Kansas Jayhawks at McLane Stadium on Saturday. Kansas will face the Bears in their second game of the year after losing a home opener to Coastal Carolina 38-23 on September 12.
It has been a rocky start for first-year Coach Dave Aranda and Baylor football after having experienced the cancellations of two of their original opponents (Ole Miss and Incarnate Word) due to delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The season almost began two weeks ago by the rescheduling of the Louisiana Tech game for September 12, but it was canceled when several Tech players tested positive for the virus. Baylor then added the Houston Cougars to the schedule on September 19, previously a planned bye week, but that game was suddenly postponed when the Bears could not field the minimum number of players in a specific position, due to Covid-19 protocols. We are hopeful that matter has been resolved and we can resume with our plans to play football. Our prayers are with the players, coaches, and staff members, from all programs, who have been impacted by this devastating disease.
Due to the previous game postponements, the “B” Association and Baylor Athletics will recognize TWO Baylor Football Legends at the game this week. I hope you will join us in honoring former players, Alonzo Pierce and Levi Norwood, this Saturday.
Remember to bring your mask, hand sanitizer and that good ol’ Baylor spirit to McLane Stadium and let’s help the Bears capture their first victory of the 2020 season.
