I wasn’t sure it would happen, but here we are. The 2020 season is about to kickoff for our Baylor Bears and new head football coach Dave Aranda. Many thanks to our administrators, coaches, staff, and student-athletes for working selflessly and tirelessly to bring this day to a reality. We, especially, thank you for your patience, loyalty and support this year. Without knowing whether we would have a season of fall sports or not due to the pandemic, you could have easily walked away and withheld your dues and financial support until next year. Thankfully, most of you didn’t. We realize that some of you are unable to sustain your support this year and some of you are still deciding. Wherever you are in this process, we appreciate your support whenever it comes and please remember the “B” Association will always be here for you.
Please allow me to take this opportunity to mention two very important endowments that are part of our letterwinners association, the “B” Association Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Dutch Schroeder Letterwinners Legacy Endowment.
The “B” Association Endowed Scholarship Fund was created to assist Baylor letterwinners who have exhausted their eligibility, but do not have the money to pay for their remaining tuition to complete their degree. Since 2012, this endowed scholarship has provided critical funding for 10 individual students through cumulative awards totaling more than $50,000. The heart-felt thank you letters we have received from scholarship recipients will melt your heart. Lives are being impacted in a very positive way.
Named in honor of the “B” Association’s Executive Vice President Emeritus, Dutch Schroeder, the Letterwinners Legacy Endowment was established to provide members the opportunity to strengthen the future of the association by equipping the organization with the means of growing its programs while ensuring the association will be able to continue its mission and service to Baylor Letterwinners in perpetuity.
You are all aware of the challenges we have faced, the changes and transitions. Thankfully, the “B” Association has been a consistent element in Baylor athletics, and we continue to provide reliable and essential support to our fellow student-athletes. We are the stalwarts, and we must ensure that no matter what the future holds, the “B” Association will be here to carry the banner of support, whether it is through awarding scholarships for letterwinners to complete their degrees, providing support and assistance to coaches, or helping current and former athletes transition to the workforce.
If you would like to contribute to either or both of these worthy endowments, please contact “B” Association board member Nick Florence, Associate AD for Major Gifts at nick_florence@baylor.edu or (254) 710-7557. No matter the size of your gift, you will be providing much needed support to the association and to Baylor student-athletes attempting to reach their dreams of graduating from college.
