What a Great Day to be a Baylor Bear! If you are like me, you love winning. Let’s face it, as letterwinners, most of us began competing at a very early age and we were taught that the ultimate goal in any competition is to WIN! Once you’ve tasted that sweet nectar of victory, it stays with you forever and it never gets old experiencing it. It provides a high like no other… and one other thing, the more you win, the more you want to win. I still get a tingly feeling when I think back to the year 2011-12, fondly known to Baylor fans as the Year of the Bear. It was a truly magical year of winning.
As I reflect over the performances and results of our fall sports teams after week 1 this season, I am feeling a little tingly again. Let’s quickly review… The #21-ranked Baylor Soccer team defeated Drake 1-0 in overtime last Friday night at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa. The #20-ranked Baylor Volleyball team remains undefeated with consecutive wins over UCLA, #18 Creighton, and Syracuse. Coach Rhule and Baylor Football secured a convincing victory over Stephen F. Austin in Waco, 56-17. Competing in their season-opener, the Bear Twilight Invitational, Baylor Cross Country runner Connor Laktasic led a contingent of Baylor runners to place second in the meet on Friday night at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex and Baylor’s women also placed second in the five-team division. Now that’s an impressive week of work for the Bears. Again, what a Great Day to be a Baylor Bear!
Congratulations to our outstanding coaches and student-athletes for getting us off to such a winning start in 2019-20.
Sic ’em!
