Colin Allred Launches Congressional Campaign

Former Baylor Linebacker, Colin Allred (2001-05), has launched a campaign to unseat Representative Pete Sessions of Dallas.

Allred was a standout athlete from Hillcrest High School in Dallas, Texas. After accepting a scholarship offer to Baylor, he went on to earn four varsity letters in football for the Bears from 2001 to 2005. Allred was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2006 and remained with the Titans until 2010 when he opted for a career in law.

After graduating from University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 2014, Allred worked as a Special Assistant in the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of General Counsel alongside then-Secretary Julian Castro. Among his projects at HUD, Allred worked with Congress and the Office of the Inspector General to ensure that public funds were spent wisely without sacrificing services and to ensure that the Department complied with all applicable ethics laws and regulations.

The former NFL player will have to run in a potentially crowded Democratic primary for the 32nd Congressional District. Allred hopes his connection to the North Dallas district attracts him to voters.”I was born and raised in this district by a single mother who taught in Dallas public schools for 27 years,” Allred said. “This community — my mom, my teachers, and my coaches — gave me the opportunity to succeed, play in the NFL, become a civil rights attorney and work for President Obama. I want to make sure future generations have the same opportunities and to make sure those values are being represented in D.C.”

As an attorney for the Perkins Coie law firm, Allred was a voting rights litigator and counsel to a range of clients including national and state political candidates and advocacy organizations. He and his wife Alexandra, who is also an attorney, now reside in North Dallas.
