Tommy Bowman to be Honored at BU vs. West Virginia Game
The “B” Association and Baylor Athletics will recognize Tommy Bowman (Basketball 1968-70) at the Baylor vs. West Virginia game on Monday, February 27, for being a trailblazer in Baylor Men’s Basketball.
A native of Athens, Texas, Bowman entered Baylor as a freshman in 1966 becoming the school’s first African-American scholarship athlete. Despite the societal challenges that existed during that time, he went on to excel as a student-athlete, becoming a two-time All-Southwest Conference player for the Bears during his varsity career. In 1992, Bowman was inducted into the Baylor Athletic Hall of Fame, and in 2006, the “B” Association honored him as a Men’s Basketball Legend.
Join us on February 27 as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the year Tommy broke the color barrier in Men’s Basketball at Baylor. We thank him for helping pave the way for many other African Americans, whose inclusion has enhanced the intercollegiate experience for all student athletes that followed.
