“B” Association to Honor Former Linebacker Joe Pawelek

Athletics - Football vs Connecticut (UConn) - Parents Weekend - Floyd Casey Stadium - 09/19/2009The “B” Association and Baylor Athletics will recognize former All-American Linebacker, Joe Pawelek, as a 2016 Baylor Football Legend at the Baylor vs. Kansas State football game on Saturday.

Pawelek was a standout athlete from Smithson Valley High School in San Antonio, Texas.  After accepting a scholarship offer to Baylor, he went on to earn four varsity letters in football for the Bears from 2006 to 2009.  He currently ranks 2nd all-time in total tackles, second only to former Baylor and NFL Hall of Fame linebacker, Mike Singletary. 

bu-fb-pawelek_joe-2009-uc4-20090919_rr_25173Pawelek led the Big 12 Conference in tackles his junior season while also leading the nation in most interceptions by a linebacker during the same year.  Chosen as the team captain in 2009, he went on to become one of the Big 12’s most dominate defensive players, earning All-Conference honors three consecutive seasons.  His stellar performances on the field garnered him a spot on Baylor Football’s prestigious All-Decade Team of the 2000’s.

In addition to his on-field achievements, Pawelek’s academic accomplishments are equally impressive. He was a four-time Academic All-Conference honoree, and a two-time Academic All-American selection during his collegiate career.

Pawelek is currently the Vice President of Corporate Finance and investor Relations at Lilis Energy in San Antonio where he resides with his wife Casey, son Joseph, and daughter Madeleine.
