Volunteer Work

Volunteer Work

Ever since I was young, I have been very involved in volunteer work. I’ve always like to help others that are not as fortunate as I am.  In high school, I was required to complete ten hours of community service every year, but I completed over sixty hours over the course of my four years. I assisted in activities such as teaching the second and third grade Sunday school class at my church, working at a food bank, and helping several churches near my school.

service-1Since coming to college, I have continued to serve the surrounding community.  I’ve helped with my fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon’s annual philanthropy in support of St. Jude’s, Carnations for a Cause.  I worked with the bearathon foundation last semester and plan on doing it again next semester.  Also, I’ve done Steppin’ Out, an all university serve day, for the past two semesters and plan to continue for upcoming semesters.  In addition, I serve at the annual Alzheimer’s walk in Waco to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s.  Along with these recurring events, I’ve served many organizations in the Waco community such as Fuzzy Friends, Caritas Warehouse, and adopt a highway.

At the end of last semester, I was elected service chair of Tau Kappa Epsilon.  So far, being the one in charge of coordinating service events and opportunities has been an incscreen-shot-2016-12-05-at-6-13-57-pmredibly positive experience, as I have had the ability to make a group of guys all actively participate in helping the local community. I’ve also enjoyed working with community leaders and helpers to coordinate service events and ensuring that the events run smoothly. Another perk of being in charge of organizing service is receiving emails from the people that we’ve helped thanking us for our service.
