Should Professional Athletes be Allowed to Sit During the National Anthem

Recently this year, mediocre quarterback Colin Kaepernick, caused national outrage because he chose to sit during the national anthem because he felt oppressed. While free speech is allowed and encouraged in the U.S.A, Kaepernick is disrespecting those who fight to ensure that we have that right.  By sitting during the anthem, NFL players are blatantly disrespecting all current and former military members who have fought to defend our country.  Although these actions are technically legal, NFL owners and coaches should start to implement harsher punishments for players who refuse to stand.

Should the Electoral College be Abolished

In the fallout of the current election, many who supported Hillary Clinton have started to call for the electoral college to be disbanded.  They believe, that whichever candidate wins the most popular votes should win the election.  There are two main arguments against this, the first being that, America was established and founded as a republic, not a democracy, in which the people select representatives (in this case electors) to represent them.  The second reason is that, while a popular vote makes sense in theory, it massively underrepresents those who do not live in large cities.

My Opinion on Post-Election Protests

During the third and final presidential debate, the current republican-nominee, Donald Trump, ended the debate by not answering when was he was asked whether or not he would accept the election results.  Minutes later, the mainstream media, Hillary Clinton, and a large portion of the general public ridiculed his response, accusing him of being intolerant and trying to tear the country apart.  However, in the ensuing weeks, Donald Trump shocked the nation by dominating Hillary in electoral college votes.  Following the election, Clinton’s supporters were incredulous and began to riot, loot, and block off major roads and freeways.  Even Hillary Clinton herself, who declared that she would accept the results of the election a plethora of times began to demand a vote recount in several states.  In the end, when people criticize someone for something they say or do, they should not carry out that same action that they were criticizing another for.
