Poster Outline and Planning 2/25/19

Rational

Today we will begin sketching a rough outline of our poster and planning the content that is in each section of the poster for URSA Scholars Day.

Procedure

  • Previously created posters were shown and analyzed by the class.
  • Students broke up into assigned groups to begin group poster planning.
  • A rough outline of the poster was created and the sections to include on the poster were determined.

Results

Shown below is the outline of the poster.

Conclusion/Next Steps

Next, we will learn more about the components and small details that are included in poster making. We will also begin making the poster for NapoleonB on Powerpoint.

Small Group Poster Creation 2/27/18

Small Group Poster Creation 2/27/18

Rationale

The rationale behind these procedures is to ensure that poster creations for Scholar’s day follow the correct format and that basic poster requirements are understood. The procedures were also done to give practice for poster making and create a draft for Scholar’s Day.

Tools/Procedure

  1. Previously created groups worked together to create poster drafts based on previous instruction
    • Poster layout and design was created based on previously created poster sketch
    • Class data from last semester were examined and graphics were created based on these data
    • Methods were described in graphic format
    • Data from both semesters were compiled and results were reported
  2. The poster draft was submitted

Results

The above poster layout was designed by Rachel and I, it is just a draft, but it demonstrates an understanding of scientific poster making.

Conclusion

Lab period today was not used for any scientific research, but I can say that I demonstrated my understanding of poster making.

Future Plans

In the future, I will continue working with Rachel and then with larger groups to create a poster for Scholar’s day.

Poster Review and Drafting 2/25/18

Poster Review and Drafting 2/25/18

Rationale

The rationale behind these procedures is to ensure that poster creations for Scholar’s day follow the correct format and that basic poster requirements are understood.

Tools/Procedure

  1. Previously created posters were presented to the class in order to communicate poster requirements
  2. The class was separated into small groups for collaboration
  3. A basic poster layout was created for the QTM to demonstrate an understanding of basic poster requirements

Results

The above poster layout was designed by Rachel and I and was approved as an acceptable layout.

Conclusion

Lab period today was used mainly as an instructional period, so there aren’t any scientific conclusions to draw from what I learned. I can, however, say that I have an understanding of basic poster requirements so I should be able to make one in the future.

Future Plans

In the future, I will be working with Rachel and then with larger groups to create a poster for Scholar’s day.

Design of Poster (2/27/19)

Rationale:

A poster for Scholar’s Week was created with PowerPoint.

Tools:

  • Power Point.
  • PhagesDB
  • PhageNotes for NapoelonB

Procedure:

  1. Created a Power Point Presentation which was shared among other members.
  2. Different pictures and diagrams were added from wet lab and in silico lab.
  3. A rough draft of the poster was created

Results:

A rough draft of the poster was created on PowerPoint.

Conclusion:

Some aspects of the poster were challenging and took longer to create than expected and therefore the poster was not completed with the required information and diagrams

Future Work:

In the future the poster will be edited, and more information will be added to create the final poster.
