02/27/19 Poster Design
02/27/19 Poster Design
Rationale:
The purpose of today’s lab was to create a poster design on PowerPoint for Scholars Week based off of the rough draft created.
Tools:
- Microsoft Powerpoint
- DNA Master Results
- Microsoft Excel
Procedure:
- Created a poster through Microsoft Powerpoint by setting the dimensions to 48 x 48 inches, selecting a color scheme, and inserting all the necessary charts, graphs, and figures.
Results:
Conclusion:
The poster making process was incredibly difficult to complete within the allotted time period as there were several learning curves to figuring out how to adjust for the extreme size of the powerpoint.
Next Steps:
The next steps for this poster are to continue tweaking little details until a fully polished and presentable poster is ready.
Poster Design 2/25/19
02/25/19 Poster Rough Draft
Rationale: The purpose of today’s lab was to look at past poster designs and create a rough outline of a possible poster deign for scholars week.
Procedure:
- Previous years poster designs were examined as the class determined what they liked and what they didn’t
- Poster design groups were then assigned
- Sheets of paper were taken out and poster design outlines were drawn out and drafted for submission.
Results:
Conclusions:
Although a very rough draft was made, there are still several elements and figures that have yet to be added to the poster.
Next Steps:
The next steps for this experiment are to take the draft that we have created and apply it to creating a poster for Scholars Week.

Second Draft Poster Design
Date: 2-27-19
- Rational
- The rational for this lab is to continue working on the poster design from the previous lab on PowerPoint.
- Procedure
- A PowerPoint presentation was created and shared with the poster group.
- Diagrams and pictures explaining lab procedures were added to the poster.
- A second, more refined rough draft of a poster created.
- Results
- A poster design was created on PowerPoint.
- Future Plans
- The next step is to add more information and refine the poster design in order to work towards a completed design.
2-25-19 — Poster Design Planning
Poster Design Planning
Date: 2-25-19
- Rational
- The rational for this lab is to brainstorm ideas for a potential poster design for Scholars Week.
- Procedure
- Poster examples from previous were studied and favorable components were noted so they could be added to the new posters.
- Groups were assigned.
- A rough sketch of a poster created.
- Results
- A poster design was drafted.
- Future Plans
- The next step is to produce a more finalized version of the poster design on PowerPoint.
Making the Scholar’s Week Poster 2/27/18
Title: Making the Scholar’s Week Poster
Date: 27 February 2019
Rationale: Each group will design a poster for NapoleonB and the group will decide which elements belong on the final poster that will be presented.
Tools:
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- PhagesDB Database
Procedure:
- Using PowerPoint and PhagesDB, information was compiled and organized into a PowerPoint slide in order to appropriately design a poster to be submitted.
- The information was divided into an Introduction, Methods, Results, and a Conclusion
Results:
- The poster was not fully completed in the time allotted, but many elements were determined and finalized for the group’s poster
- Below are pictures of some of the elements of the poster:
Conclusions: The poster contains many creative elements that help to explain the methods and results of the experiment, although it does need to be finished. Regardless, it contributes to the group’s effort of compiling a final poster to be presented.
Poster Design 2/25/19
Title: Poster Design
Date: 25 February 2019
Rationale: A rough poster outline will be made in order to formulate a final poster design in preparation for Scholar’s Week
Procedure:
- On a blank sheet of paper, a rough design of the NapoleonB poster was drawn out and planned
- The sheet of paper was saved to be used for reference at a later date
Results: Below is a picture of the designed format for the NapoleonB poster:
Conclusions:
The poster template will be used to help guide the final design of the Scholar’s Week poster at a later date.
Poster Board Design
02/25/19
Rationale: to prepare a scientific poster board for Scholars Day
Procedure:
- the proper elements and components required in a scientific poster board were discussed
- examples of poster boards were compared
- groups for independent research and drafts of poster board were assigned
- assigned to be in a group with Sabin Patel and Michael Lum
- draft for a poster board was made with the members
Results:
first sketch of draft
Conclusion:
making poster boards requires a great amount of preparation. They must be specifically designed so that they can be easily used to present the information.
future steps
we will make a draft poster as a group, which will later be combined with other poster boards for a final draft.
Poster Making 2/27/19
Rationale
Today we will begin making a research poster to present our findings on NapoleonB.
Procedure
- Powerpoint was opened and a shared presentation was created for each person in the group to begin working on the poster.
- Each group member worked on different aspects of the poster, in order for it to come together and to maximize time.
- The outline and spacing of the poster was individually worked on, as well as the introduction.
Results
The created poster is shown below.
The poster is not finished, but due to time constraints, this was the result produced.
Conclusion/Next Steps
Next, we will continue to work on our poster and learn more about the art of poster making. We will also dive more into each section and what each of us wants to present in each section of the poster.
