Poster Presentations (3/6/19)

Rationale:

Groups presented their posters and the best poster was chosen for scholar’s week.

Procedure:

  1. Each group presented their poster to the class.
  2. Discussed in a group what was liked and disliked about each poster.
  3. Voted on a poster to use.
  4. Made a list of things to modify the poster selected.

Results:

The following poster was selected.

Conclusion:

All group posters lack interesting findings that made them stand out. It was decided that the Phamerator should stay on the poster, and the sunburst should not be used. The class was challenged to create a figure displaying the gene number, function, and related phages.

Future Work:

Modify this poster to make it stand out with interesting findings associated NapoleonB.

Poster Critiques 3/6/19

Rational

Today we will evaluate all 4 posters created by the class and determine which one is best fit for later use.

Procedure

  • Presented poster and different style elements
  • Evaluated each poster
  • Determined which poster was to be worked on in the future by the class.

Results

The 4 posters are shown below. The first poster was chosen to be worked on further.

Conclusion/Next Steps

It was concluded that the poster made by Lily, Aman, Lucy, Sabin, Michael, and I was to be worked on for future use by the class. Next, we will improve more on the poster and work on presentation skills for URSA Scholars Day.

Finishing Final Posters 3/4/19

Rationale

Today we will finish creating the final posters in our groups before presenting them to the class.

Procedure

  • Combined groups with Sabin, Aman, and Michael
  • Shared our (Lily, Lucy, and I) poster with group 2
  • Combined elements of the poster to create one cohesive presentation

Results

The final poster result is shown below.

Conclusion/Next Steps

It was somewhat difficult to create the poster and combine the elements of the two styles. The overall words and content that were used were previously created during the last lab, however small issues such as spacing and font sizes were reoccurring. Next, we will assess all the posters created as a class and determine which one will be used to continue our work.

Poster Critique

3/6/19

Rational:

To present the group poster and critique other group’s poster and decide which poster to use as a base.

Procedure:

  • Critiqued every groups poster
  • Presented the groups poster explaining each section and the reasoning behind the set up
  • As a class decided on the base poster
  • Made a list of the compoents from other posters to add to the base poster

Observations:

  • As a class the doughnut figure showing the gene function list was decided on
  • A smaller intro was decided on
  • Decided to use a better figure to represent the soil metadata (more visually appealing)
  • The figure of the tree on the map and the figure of the plate showing the plaque morphologies were kept

Fig.9 – This image shows the two figures that were kept by the class to be added the the final poster

Conclusion:

A base poster was decided on as well as important components to add. Next lab we will start making the final poster using the base poster and the components chosen.

Poster

3/4/19

Rational:

To combine the poster rough drafts that our large groups two smaller groups created.

Procudure:

  • Used my group’s poster as the template poster
  • Added information and figures to the rough draft
  • Added some of the information from the other group’s poster to the final

Conclusion:

The final draft for our group’s poster was finished. Next lab each group will present their poster so that we can decide on the base for our classes final poster.

poster board presentation

Rationale:

To make a final draft of the poster board, which will later be combined with other poster boards in the group for a final poster for scholars day

Procedure:

  1. all draft posters made by the big groups were presented by each group and then critiqued
  2. in the end, a vote was taken on which group’s poster board will be used
  3. by vote, poster made by Aman Patel, Sabin Patel, Micheal Lum, Lucy Potts, Emily Gaw, and Lily Goodman was chosen for final poster.

Results:

the chosen poster board for presentation after editing

other poster boards that were presented

conclusions

After critiques and voting, this board was chosen. the board will require some more editing and merging with information used by other groups

Future steps

edit poster board for scholars day
