Rebecca Flavin, lecturer in political science and the faculty advisor for Baylor’s Model United Nations program, reports that the Baylor Model UN team has done well at the American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago, Ill.
At the conference last week, 13 Baylor students competed with more than 1,000 university students from around the United States.
“Our students represented the nation of Iceland, and in their role they researched contemporary topics facing the international community, including violence against women, land mines, food security and access to safe drinking water and sanitation,” Flavin said.
Several Baylor students received individual recognition at the conference. Tiffany Clark, a graduate student in international relations, was named to the position of president of the conference’s International Court of Justice. Six Baylor students served on committees that were named an “Outstanding Delegation,” a designation that represents the highest award given at Model UN conferences.
The six students serving on Outstanding Delegations included: Tyler Kopas (junior, professional selling), Laurabeth Hooper (sophomore, international studies), Adi Raj (senior, University Scholar), Paul Schlaudraff (junior, Baylor Business Fellow/accounting), Cagney McCauley (senior, biology) and Sharita Khaira (senior, international studies).
“On behalf of the students, I want to thank Baylor for its generous support of this program, which advances our common goals under the Pro Futuris vision by educating these students for informed engagement through transformational learning experiences,” Flavin said.
Congratulations to Professor Flavin and Baylor’s Model UN team!
