b. Characteristics of Waveforms

The frequency of a sound wave is what makes a discernible pitch to our ears.

Sine Wave: A smooth and clean sound. No partials are hidden, and the wave is curved and even. Volume warning:

Square Wave: A rich and buzzy sound due to its harmonics. Volume warning (turn down. like a lot):

Triangle Wave: Has similar harmonics as a square wave, but also some of the softness of the sine wave. A best of both worlds. Volume warning:

Sawtooth Wave: The most buzzy sounding of these 4 waves. Harsh and very rich in harmonics. Almost the opposite sound of the smooth sine wave. Volume warning (turn down. like a lot):
