I don’t watch or read a lot of futuristic fiction, but the dystopian visions I find most plausible (eg. WALL-E, the novel Cloud Atlas) show corporate logic having overtaken everything, leaving people neither the leverage nor the sensibility to try to change their existence. We’re not there yet, of course, but I have to wonder what, if anything, will rise up to stop the slide in that direction. Then again, I seem oddly content to let FaceBook, Google, and Amazon make a whole lot of my decisions for me, so who am I to complain?
