Drugs = Destruction

Today's Choice, Tomorrow's Future

The Issue

Drugs abuse amongst people is an important issue in our community. Using drugs not only negatively impacts individuals, but their community as well. Our hope is to raise awareness about the destructive impact of drugs on young people and those around them. Drugs are chemicals that effect the body in different harmful ways. Using and abusing drugs is destructive physically, socially, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Drugs can weaken the immune system, cause cardiovascular condition and liver damage, and negatively impact sleep patterns. In addition, drug abuse negatively impacts the economy of communities. Recently, Waco has begun to crack down on drug issues in the community. In March, 2014 the sheriff’s office conducted 3 drug busts in 3 days and arrested 12 people.

Drug addiction is a serious problem, but there are ways to help and prevent this problem from occurring. For those who are addicted to drugs, there are local facilities available to help. Cenikor is a local treatment facility committed to helping people deal with behavioral health issues and addictions by providing a full continuum of care. Cenikor has a variety of programs including short-term and long-term inpatient programs, detoxification, outpatient and intensive outpatient services. Mission Waco Manna House is a healthy and unashamedly Christian home setting with a treatment component for adult males who are alcohol/drug dependent. They provide an innovative, unique and holistic model of alcohol and drug treatment.

In addition to drug rehabilitation, drug prevention is another important part of ensuring that young people chose to be drug free and a make a choice for today and for tomorrow’s future. Part of drug prevention is raising awareness about the harmful impact of drugs. This means educating children at a young age about the harmful effects of drugs. Programs like DARE, Red Ribbon Week, and our campaign are aimed to do this! So take a look at our video and help us spread the word.
