    1. Avolio, Walumbwa, and George are the some of the scholars known for their research of authentic leadership. Some of the research questions they were asking subjects were if authentic leadership was nurtured or if it was a trait. Another question asked if this type of leadership was developed from positive psychological qualities and strong ethics.
  2. How are the practical and theoretical approaches to studying authentic leadership similar or different? How do they compare to the teleological and deontological approaches to studying ethical leadership?
    1. These are similar because both of them are concerned with how to use authentic leadership and how to define it. The differences between these two things are that practical is the truth. Theoretical is different types of opinions and are still emerging. Practical compares to deontological because what is said is binding. Whereas the theoretical standpoint leans toward teleological which is more toward moral based.
  3. Why is authentic leadership hard to define? Describe the three different definitions of authentic leadership. What does each definition contribute to our understanding of this concept?
    1. Authentic leadership tends to be hard to define because the formative stage of development. This stage effects this because there are many viewpoints and perceptions of how people see this type of leadership. All of the viewpoints emphasize different things.
  4. What are the five basic characteristics of authentic leadership, according to Bill George? How does George’s approach compare to the trait approach? The Big 5?
    1. The five basic characteristics of authentic leadership are to understand their purpose, have strong values about the right thing to do, establish trusting relationships with others, demonstrating self-disciple and act on their values, passionate about their values. In the trait approach only 4 out of 5 agree with his statement In the Big 5 only 3 out of 5 are in agreement with him.
  5. What is the difference between passion and compassion in George’s AL model?
    1. The difference between passion and compassion in George’s AL model is that passion means their own personal feelings toward their project. Then compassion means how leaders act, behave, and treat their followers.
  6. How are the dimensions of AL related to the characteristics of AL in George’s model?
    1. The dimensions of AL are related to the characteristics of AL in George’s model by having them all intrapersonal and interpersonal.
  7. Using Walumbwa et al.’s (2008) definition of authentic leadership, distinguish between leader behaviors and traits. What are outcomes of authentic leadership? What is the follower role?
    1. Walumbwa et al.’s definition of authentic leadership, distinguish between leader behaviors and traits is made up of behaviors that leaders are not born with but are learned throughout the years. Some of the outcomes of authentic leadership re internalized moral perspective, a balanced processing and relational transparency and self-awareness. The follower’s role in this is to be accepting of their leader and open to what the leader says in order to be able to accomplish the organizations goals.
  8. What are some of the effects of authentic leadership on followers?
    1. Some effect of authentic leadership in followers is being able to motivate them to do better. Some effect the followers would have it striving to do a better job and having more trust in the leaders they follow. By the leader showing them their true self it helps with having a positive impact on how knowing the leader may have faults but they still have their back.
  9. What is the relationship between team climate and authentic leadership?
    1. Team climate means to have a shared perspective of behaviors. It means to share the same practices and procedures both which may be formal or informal in a team. Team climate in short is how team members perceive what the group dynamic is. The relationship between team climate and team leadership is that if the leader is honest and open with their team members than the team climate will be open and honest. The authentic leadership values inputs from everyone which also conveys on the group dynamic by letting everyone will be heard.
  10. How is self-awareness in the AL approach different from the psychodynamic approach? Can you identify a person who exemplifies this component of the model?
    1. In the AL approach the difference between self- awareness and psychodynamic approach is that it leads followers to believe it is more authentic. It is good at having a leader who is self-aware and it is good because it helps the leaders image.
  11. How does authentic leadership fit with the following components of leadership: process, influence, group context, and goal attainment?
    1. Authentic leadership fits with the following components of leadership in process by showing followers you have concise and clear goals. It is also shown in process by having effective, open and honest communication. It effects influence by making sure their followers are being the best they can be. The leader makes sure they are being transparent and genuine while also being straight to the point. Authentic leadership fits in with group context by having the group rely on their leader. The last one was goal attainment which affects the follower and leader’s relationship. This relationship is determined by the leader.
  12. What are the strengths and criticisms of the Authentic Leadership approach?
    1. Some of the strengths the Authentic Leadership approach has is that build on trustworthy leadership and gives an outline on what potential leaders can use to become leaders. This type of leadership can be developed over time and can also be measured using the ALQ. Some of the criticisms that have come with the authentic Leadership approach is that it has not finished developing. Another criticism is that this type of leadership style has not fully been developed and is still on the developing stage. Various researchers have questioned how authentic this type of leadership and if it brings in positive results.
