    1. Transformational leadership is a term that implies a process that changes people. This deals with emotions, ethics, and values with long term goals.
  2. What accounts for the popularity of this concept?
    1. What accounts for this popularity of this concept is that it deals with either very broad topics or very narrow topics. This concept can be used to describe a narrow point of view on how to influence people such as meeting with them individually. It can also be broad such as meeting with an entire organization or even different cultures.
  3. Explain the differences between transactional and transformational leadership.
    1. Transactional leadership is what is usually used in leadership models. This type of leadership is used to describe the relationship between leaders and followers. Transformational leadership is used to describe how someone interacts with their followers to form a connection with them that causes motivation between the two. This type of leader is responsive to their followers and adheres to their needs to be able to enact their followers fullest potential.
  4. Define and describe pseudotransformational leadership from Bass’s (1998, 2006) perspective.
    1. Pseudotransformational leadership from Bass’s perspective are leaders who are power oriented, have distorted moral values and are self -consumed. They tend to focus on their own interests instead of others.
  5. What did Christie, Barling and Turner (2011) contribute to our understanding of pseudotransformational leadership?
    1. Christie, Barling and Turner contributed to our understanding of pseudotransformational leadership by bringing in the four components of the transformational leadership. They brought in idealized influence, inspirational motivation intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration.
  6. Discuss what other real-world leaders, past or present, could be considered transformational leaders.
    1. Two leaders that come to mind that I consider as being transformational leaders are Martin Luther King Jr and Ghandi. Both of these leaders inspired others and raised the hopes of everyone for change. They not only helped change the world around them, but they themselves also changed

    1. The personality characteristics and types of behaviors often associated with charismatic leaders are dominant, self- confident, influential, strong moral values big role model, competence, have strong goals, and motivate people.
  8. According to research, how does using transformational leadership result in growth for the leader?
    1. Transformational leadership results in growth for the leaders because when the leaders are helping others and bringing their followers to their furthest potential, it helps them change too. For example, Ghandi touched thousands of lives when we went out and showed himself as an example of how you should treat others and live your life. Through his leadership in helping others he became a better man and because of that he was able to touch others’ lives. He not only impact peoples’ lives, people also impacted him.

    1. Leadership is on a continuum ranging from transformational to laissez-faire. Leadership can range from being transformational to laissez-faire leadership. It can also range from being transactional leadership to being in the middle.
  10. Explain the seven factors incorporated in the Bass Model of Transformational and Transactional Leadership.
    1. Factor one has to deal with charisma and influence. Factor two deals with motivation targeted to inspire people. Factor three is on intellectual stimulation. Factor four is personalized consideration. Factor five is on the contingent reward, factor six deals with present or past, corrective transactions and lastly factor 7 deals with the laissez-faire approach with no transactional.
  11. Describe the work of Bennis and Nanus and the work of Kouzes and Posner. What are the similarities in their research methods?
    1. The work of Bennis and Nanus had to deal with asking 90 leaders a series of questions about leadership and they identified four common strategies used by them when they are transforming an organization. The work of Kouzes and Posner dealt with interviewing at least 1.300 middle to senior level managers. The survey asked them to explain their best experiences being a leader and discovered five fundamentals on what makes leaders effective and get things accomplished. Both of these studies found similarities on the leader’s responses and both of these studies used a wide range of leaders from diverse backgrounds

    1. The four leadership strategies identified by Bennis and Nanus are clear vision, social architects, create trust, and creative development of self. Clear vision means to be able to picture an attractive and believable future. It means to be able to draw your followers in by creating something that would interest them. Social architects’ job is to be able to create a combined group identify that agrees with the purpose of the organization. Create trust means to be able to know what their positions are and make everyone know what they are in a clear and concise manor. It also means to be predictable and reliable when situations arise that may make people feel uncomfortable. Create a trust also means being able to navigate the group in a direction to make everyone feel safe and feel assured they are heading toward success. Creative development of self means to have a positive viewpoint on yourself and being able to identify where you need improvement and where you are striving. This also means being able to see your own competence in yourself.
  13. Explain Kouzes and Posner’s five practices that enable leaders to get extraordinary things accomplished.
    1. The five practices that enable leaders to get extraordinary things accomplished are, model the way, inspire a vision, challenge the process, enable others to act and encourage the heart. Model the way means to be able to have a clear path in what your philosophy is and how you are able to express it. Inspire a shared vision means to be able to inspire people through visons of what should be and be able to being positive outcomes. Challenge the process is leader’s ability to be flexible and not be rigid in their thinking. Enable others to act has to do with enabling trust with everybody and to promote a collaboration and provide teamwork. Encourage the heart means the ability to lift others up and inspire them to be able to get stuff done and accomplish their goals.
  14. What are strengths of transformational leadership theory?
    1. This theory has been researched extensively which gives it a variety of multiple perspectives. This theory appeals to people intuitions and views leadership as a process between the follower and the leader. This theory also places a great deal of weight on what the follower needs and what their morals are.
  15. What are criticisms of transformational leadership theory?
    1. Some of the criticisms the transformational leadership theory has undergone is the fact that it doesn’t have conceptual clarity. It treats leader’s abilities as being inherited or born with them rather than being able to learn them. This makes this theory appear as elitist or antidemocratic.
  16. Why might the transformational leadership approach not be as effective with Millennials?
    1. Millennials viewpoint tend to not gravitate towards ideology containing leaders being born with abilities or anything that has to do with an elite point of view. Millennials if they want to be leaders don’t want to be told you can’t do something such as lead people because it’s not in your DNA. If they want to be able to accomplish something, then they will look to another theory or another tactic that will help them. This would turn away a lot of people who are open to learning new things and forwarding their career and social life.
