Introduction

Hello,

My name is Tito Martinez and I am a junior here at Baylor University. I am currently a Management Information Systems major taking Introduction to Data Visualization. As part of this course, I am required to set up a blog where I will be documenting nearly everything that I learn in this class. It is here in this blog that I hope to display my knowledge of data visualization as well as document all the assignments, projects, and interesting tasks in the hopes that I am able to educate someone about the interesting topic that is data visualization. Attached is an example of my first assignment, finding an example of good or bad data visualization and explaining my thoughts behind it. This pie chart represents the different Google Home queries and the percentage that each query makes up out of 100%. It is a terrible example of data visualization because only the person who designed this chart knows exactly what the numbers mean next to the percentages. Not only that, but also any query that is less than 4% is disregarded as it isn’t legible. Hopefully as my knowledge of data visualization progresses, I will be able to revisit this graph and construct a graphic that is informative and clear to you! I can’t wait to share this journey with you and I hope that you stick along as we immerse into the world of Data Visualization.
