DeanSignInstaThe search committee seeking a dean for the Baylor School of Education (SOE) has entered a new phase of the process, according to the latest update.

“The process has reached the point where the committee has begun to hold preliminary, confidential, face-to-face interviews with a group of potential candidates,” committee chair Dr. Michael Matier wrote in an update dated Jan. 13.

The search process is still in the confidential phase, and no information about individual candidates has been announced, but Matier said that candidates under consideration could possibly visit campus as early as February to meet with people beyond the search committee.

Matier called the prospect pool “robust” and said it was “diverse and possessed of a significant number of individuals with substantively relevant academic and administrative experience.”

Matier also pointed out that dean candidates have invariably expressed great respect for the School of Education and for Baylor.

The SOE dean search began last year when Dr. Jon Engelhardt, dean of the School of Education since 2007, announced his plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2014-15 academic year.
