Even though the hike was short today, it was nevertheless beautiful. We were led through the city and ended up in the main city center which was filled with a rich history of Abingdon. We heard stories about the “bread throwing”. We made our way over to theĀ gardens in Abingdon Abbey, and the flowers were absolutely stunning. It was the perfect weather for this walk and the sun reached out its rays to the flowers pulling them up. There was the right amount of wind, and it kept us cool. We then followed a path along the river and ended up next to the main part of the clear blue lake. It eventually wrapped around back towards the main gardens where we had lunch. It was such a gorgeous day outside, and the grass was incredibly lush compared to the spiky grass back in Texas. If only there was a park like this in Waco where I could run every morning. Lastly, we went to St. Helen’s which despite the numerous spider webs decorating the doorways, was just as beautiful and rich in history as the rest of Abingdon.
P.S. Great Job to the group who led this hike!
