This pictures an athlete who tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). Typically these ligaments are torn after sustaining some type of contact or outside force/pressure. This athlete however sustained these injuries from non-contact, which is possible but not as common.
Pictured left is a dislocation of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint sustained during a football game.
Pictured right is an x-ray of the leg. The femur (top) meets the tibia and the fibula (bottom) to form the knee joint. This x-ray shows the tibia which is fractured and is protruding posteriorly into the soleus and the gastrocnemius muscles. The soleus and gastrocnemius are the muscles that form the calf.
This injury was sustained during a field hockey game. The athlete was hit by a field hockey ball in the mouth which caused the cut to the mouth. The athlete had to have stitches to piece the mouth back together.
