Lori Spies, a senior lecturer in Baylor’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing, was recently named a recipient of the 2014 Excellence in Nursing Award by D Magazine, a city magazine covering culture, politics, business and art in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

The awards are given annually to recognize nurses who make positive contributions to health care in North Texas.  Out of 456 nurses nominated, Spies was one of 24 award recipients. She was recognized in the “Nurse Practitioner—Primary Care” category for providing international educational opportunities to Baylor nursing students, as well as for her work with nurses in underserved areas around the world.

Two other Baylor faculty members were named finalists for the award: Dr. Shelley Conroy, dean of LHSON, was a finalist in the leadership category and Dr. Jane Nunnelee, a senior lecturer at LHSON, was a finalist in the geriatrics category.
