Here’s my final reflection on the course.  It’s kind of a lame duck at this point since the semester is well over and I’m sure you’re all relaxing on a beach somewhere.  (Or studying for comps. Same thing.)  But here it is.  I had a great semester.

Here are my thoughts on Parmenides and Socrates, and what’s at stake for them in the dialogue.

Between paper-writing spurts I managed to get something on my blog for this week.  (Somehow that feels like such an accomplishment this week!)  I know you’re all dying to read it in between your own paper-writing spurts.  You can find it here.

I weigh in on the Antiphon question and would love to continue the conversation from seminar.

I have some reflections here about Antiphon, the philosopher-turned-horse-whisperer.  Comments welcome.

Here’s my initial response to Dr. Schultz’s assignment (see the post right below).  Don’t worry it’s short!

Here’s what I’d like for you think about (or blog about) between now and the next time we are together.

We read some Parmenides fragments. They contain his views about being. Articulate what they are to the best of your understanding.

Socrates articulates a view about something like “a theory of forms” in Plato’s Parmenides. Articulate to the best of your understanding what that view is.

Parmenides, in Plato’s Parmenides, spends a great deal of time getting Socrates to defend his claims about the forms.

In your view, what primarily is at stake in the debate between the character Socrates and the character Parmenides, if we attribute the view of being in the Parmenides fragments to the character Parmenides in Plato’s Parmenides.

That is all aside from your paper drafts.
