In 2009, the Baylor University Libraries subscribed to campus-wide access to the online version of The Chronicle of Higher Education (http://chronicle.com). At that time, access to The Chronicle was controlled by being on campus or using a link that went through the Library’s proxy service for off-campus access.  Unfortunately this mode of off-campus-network access doesn’t work well with today’s mobile devices.   Recently The Chronicle made an enhancement to their subscription service that resolves this issue, and the Baylor University Libraries upgraded to this additional level of access.  Now Baylor University faculty, students, and staff may access The Chronicle on the device that is most convenient for them, no matter where they are located.

If you do not already have a personal account set up at The Chronicle of Higher Education that uses your Baylor e-mail address, then you need to create that free account by clicking on the “Create a Free Account” link at found on the top right side at http://chronicle.com or you can use this direct link:  http://chronicle.com/myaccount/createfreeaccount.  Once you have a personal account with The Chronicle that uses your Baylor e-mail address, use that e-mail address and the password you set up when you created the account to access The Chronicle from any of the following devices or from off campus:

  • From the iPad  — Download The Chronicle’s free iPad editions app.  With this app, you can download either or both sections of The Chronicle.  Login to this app using your Baylor e-mail address and the password you set in your Chronicle account.  Once you have logged in, you will be able to download each week’s issue of The Chronicle.  Note that the download time can take 5+ minutes, depending on the speed of the network you are using.
  • From smart phones or tablets using the device’s web browser – Login to The Chronicle’s mobile interface (it should auto-detect when you go to http://chronicle.com) with your Baylor e-mail address and the password you set in your Chronicle account.
  • From any computer, from any location in the world – Go to http://chronicle.com and login with your Baylor e-mail address and the password you set in your Chronicle account.
