Everyday Life and Women in America 1800 – 1920

Search a rich variety of historical magazines and books providing guidance to American women on how to run their homes, raise their children, be a good wife, and other domestic matters. Politics, religion, health and sex, employment, popular literature, reviews of the arts, and society news (i.e., gossip and scandal!) are among the less-domestic topics covered. The magazines, books, and other documents are full-text searchable by keyword or advanced search. Essays by scholars provide helpful context for working with and understanding the materials and there is an extensive bibliography of secondary sources for further research.
