Dr Erica D. Bruce’s Bio

Position Title:

Assistant Professor

Education:

  • 1999, Texas A&M University, Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering – Specialty: Environmental Engineering
  • 2001, Texas A&M University, Master of Science, Civil Engineering – Specialty: Environmental Engineering
  • 2007, Texas A&M University, Doctor of Philosophy, Civil Engineering/Toxicology – Specialty: Environmental Engineering/Toxicology

Personal Statement:

Dr . Erica Bruce is on faculty at Baylor University in the departments of Environmental Science, Institute of Biomedical Studies, and the Institute of Ecological, Earth, and Environmental Science. An overarching focus of research performed in her laboratory is answering a variety of complex questions relating to human health using molecular, in vitro and in vivo models and tools. This would include several relevant questions relating to exposures to environmental contaminates, issues related to insult or injury to human systems, as well as cellular mechanisms of toxic action/healing as well as mechanisms of uptake for nanomedicine. Areas of ongoing research include improving environmental/human health risk assessment, nanomedicine, quantitative structure-activity modeling, environmental engineering, elucidating toxic mechanisms of action, improving toxicity estimate and estimating biological responses from exposures to environmental contaminants. These tools help to bridge the gap between costly, time intensive experiments and relevant biological and toxicological data obtained from these experiments, while providing scientifically sound answers to complex environmental and human health problems.
