Lab 13: Gel Electrophoresis and Poster Design (04/12/18)

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Objective:

  • The purpose of this lab was to run gel electrophoresis on our samples in our gels and analyze them under UV light. Also, in this lab, we began to discuss the poster and what design we were going with.

Procedure:

  1. We obtained the previously made gels, the DNA ladder, and our samples from last class.
  2. 5 microliters of the ladder was placed in the well at the end of the gel.
  3. Since two groups used one gel, group 2 placed 10 microliters of their samples in the first three wells next to the ladder.
  4. Our group then put our samples in the three wells next to group 2 in the order negative, positive, eDNA.
  5. The gel electrophoresis was then ran for 30 minutes at 100 V
  6. The gel was then removed from the box and observed under UV light.
  7. For the remainder of lab, we planned out our poster design and what to include it in it.

Results:

Conclusion:

  • Our sample, luckily showed a band around 500 bp band thus showing the presence of DNA. After analyzing the gel image, my group and I worked on how to incorporate what results and methods we have to include on our poster. The next steps is to review over all of the protocols that we have ran and use that in our poster.
