A close hit

10 07 2012

Since last weekend, my car started to vibrate whenever the speed is above 60 mpg. I thought it’s just the road was bumpy and didn’t pay
too much attention until the weekend, when I drove to College Station. The 1.5 hour drive was full of shaking and I sensed that there could be something wrong.

To me, car is way too complicated and I prefer to ask the experts for help. So today I asked a colleague about the situation. He checked out my tires and said maybe my car needs tire rotation. After work, I brought the car to a tire place and told the mechanics that I need a tire rotation.
While waiting, they called me into the garage and said there’s something they want to show me. So I followed them and saw the rear right tire has a clear cut. It could explode anytime. And the front right one is not well aligned either. At that moment, I guess I don’t really have a choice but change the tires.

I guess I’m really not good at taking care of my car. After purchased it 3 years ago, I never performed a tire rotation because I didn’t know it’s
necessary. And since I don’t drive much, oil change is not on time either. I guess what I really need to do starting from now is to make a car maintenance calendar to remind myself about the necessary check points. Every trip I saw car accidents. Recently right outside the company on I45, two people are killed in an accident and south bound of the highway was closed for immediate investigation. Every year, more people are killed or seriously injured than any other kinds of transportations, even the plane. Looking at my almost broken tire, I feel so scared, but so lucky. That was a close hit. But luckily, it was just a close hit.
