Sunshine after the rain

From today to the end of next week, the temperature will
keep above 100 degree. The real summer in Texas is here.

Maybe because I’m in Houston and further south than ever,
this summer is hotter. Very humid plus the polluted air in Houston sometimes
makes me missing Waco a little. My colleague who works in the warehouse has
already adjusted his work hour to avoid the sun. The consumption of soft drinks
is faster. The safety committee starts to send out emails regarding dehydration
prevention. Tetra is ready for the summer.

The first thing kicks off this summer is the heart walk
luncheon today. Everyone is invited to the corporate office to attend a seminar
from a cardiologist about how to prevent from heart disease. Then there are two
other employees telling the real life stories happened to them before. One of them
is born with heart disease and had an open heart surgery. The other one had
experience a heart attack. They told us about how they feel and how they fight
for the heart disease. For me, the most important thing to start with is quit
smoking. None of my family members smokes so I’m super sensitive to the smell
of smoke. I remember I used to be very extreme when choosing friends: no smoke
for sure. Now I still don’t like the smell and would try to persuade if I ever
have a chance to tell the smoker. The other day one commercial on TV shocked
me. It’s an old lady who got cancer because of smoke. She can barely talk. She
uses her own experience to tell people what’s the result, what you’ll get for
smoking so many years. It’s only pain. She needs to put on wigs, talking
device, artificial teeth every day to survive. The picture is shocking yet
powerful! So to protect yourself from heart attack, quit smoking, do more
exercises and eat healthy!

One more tip for the summer in Texas: keep being hydrated… Because
it’s Texas…
