Annual safety day—Safety first
15 06 2012As I said last time, Tetra is a safety first company.
Yesterday we had a fire extinguisher training which they brought in real fire
fighters to give us a video lesson of how to use a fire extinguisher followed
by real life experience. The captain is very nice and gave us a very detailed
information session about different grades of fire and which kind of fire
extinguisher we should use. Then they lighted up fire and handed us the dry
chemical fire extinguisher to put out the fire! The trick is P.A.S.S. , which
stands for pull, aim, squeeze and sweep side to side. With this in mind, I
stood in line and wait for my turn to put out the fire. The fire extinguisher
is pretty heavy and I had a hard time lifting it up. But the moment the fire
was put out, I was so excited. Though I hope I never need to use a fire
extinguisher ever, the experience is very cool! Now I have completed HSO443
fire extinguisher operation and got my certificate!
Today it’s annual safety day. Started with a safety moment,
everyone learned how about how to handle chemical spill and what kind of proper
personal protective equipment is needed in certain situations. Following the
presentation is the game of hazard hunt. We were divided into different groups
to find the hazard in the lab and warehouse. Then suddenly “an emergency notice”
was announced over the PA and we were evacuated to the designated area. Of
course this is part of the training. Then we were given another real life
experience opportunity—clean up the warehouse and protect from possible hazard.
With everybody involved, we finished within an hour! Lunch with jeopardy game
of safety questions and then safety scenarios were followed and my group rocked
in jeopardy! That’s a fun experience! The safety day closes with another safety
note. I guess everyone truly learned a lot about safety. Together we can create
a safe working environment!
