RCMS is under construction!

During the next 3 months, the wall that runs along the RCMS unit will be under construction to fix leaks.  While we are putting steps into place to support continued workflow, there will be some changes during this time period.

Services:

  • Oct 6 – Jan 1
    • All services will potentially slow down due the physical disruption with people in different places, and workers in the area.
    • Personnel moves include (office spaces moved, phone #s the same):
      • G43: Bruce Evans, Jennifer Borderud, Allison Yanos, Amanda Harlan, Andrea Turner, Pam Belser
      • G45: Ramona McKeown, Katie McCarty
      • G37N: Beth Tice
  • Oct 15 – Nov 1
    • While abatement processes are continuing, ALL of RCMS will be moved out.
    • The following services will be discontinued until we are allowed back in RCMS area:
      • Rush requests (orders and items in processing) – we will tell people to work through ILL
      • Binding services
      • Cataloging services
      • Metadata services
      • Acquisition services

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Thank you to everyone who is helping fit us in to various workflows across the libraries – this is a somewhat stressful time, and we couldn’t do this without the support of our colleagues!  Thank you,

Beth

AirBear support enhanced at TechPoint desk

October 1, 2010

When clients or library personnel experience problems with connections to the AirBear wireless network, there are a couple things that could be causing the problem. There could be a problem with the network access point, or there might be a problem with the wireless device itself (an outdated driver for the wireless card, for example). Please refer library clients to the TechPoint desk in the Moody Study Commons (Garden Level) as the first stop for Airbear configuration assistance at any time we are open. You might be interested to know that David Burns has added two student workers to the TechPoint staff to provide advanced Airbear support on Sunday – Thursday evenings. These students have received specialized training by the ITS repair shop to fix problems the regular student workers at the TechPoint desk might not have been able to solve. This service supplements the advanced support available at the ITS shop during regular business hours.

If a wireless device has recently been updated by TechPoint or ITS and the client is still having trouble, or if more than one person is having network problems in the same area, please report the problem to the HELP line. There may be a problem with the access point.

Public “KIC” scanners here!

February 15, 2010

KIC scannerThe new KIC scanners have arrived, and the vendor will be here to install them on Tuesday (2/16) and Wednesday (2/17). These scanners provide a simple, intuitive touchscreen interface for public scanning. Images are stored directly on a client’s USB drive.

For clients who don’t have a USB drive with them, we will offer two options. They can borrow a drive from the nearest service point (these will be available soon), or they can purchase a drive from Java City (currently priced at $12.99 for a 2 GB drive).
